Snapmaker is releasing the dual extrusion 3D module that fans have been waiting for at least a year now. So, let´s take a look at the features and the release date!
As a whole, the new dual extrusion 3D module can be preordered now and will be released in December 2022. It features 2 direct extruders, a max nozzle temperature of 300°C, and supports auto leveling. This means that you can print pretty much any commercial filament if you have an enclosure.
This module seems to be the same module that the new Artisan will be shipped with.
Features
Here is an in-depth look at all of the features:
- Dual extrusion
- 300°C nozzle temperature
- Direct drive
- Compatible with any size of nozzle
- Auto leveling
- Quick swap hot ends
- 100 mm/s print speed
The dual extrusion and the hot end quick swap are the two most interesting features of this module.
Dual extrusion will allow for a lot of interesting printing options like dual-colored printing and printing with dissolvable supports, for example.
The 3D print modules of the Snapmaker have all been direct drives so far so I don´t see any reason why this module wouldn´t be.
This enables the module to print any commercial filament out there including PLA, ABS, ASA, PETG, TPU, Breakaway PLA, PVA, HIPS, Nylon, Carbon Fiber Reinforced Nylon, and Glass Fiber Reinforced Nylon.
But only if you have an enclosure for your Snapmaker.
The quick swap feature is interesting as it allows you to quickly switch the nozzle size in between prints. This enables makers to easily test different settings with differently sized nozzles. I really like this feature.
The rest of the features are pretty standard for today’s standards so I won´t go over them in detail here. All of these features are nice to have and helpful but nothing special.
Release
The module can be preordered as of today right here on the Snapmaker homepage. It costs about 430$ on release.
But it will be shipped in December 2022. So for now, it can only be preordered.
Module Comes With the Artisan
Snapmaker has announced that they will be releasing the Artisan this year. You can also preorder the Artisan and it will also be sent in December 2022.
So my thinking is that Snapmaker will not send out the new 3D module until the artisan is released because the Artisan likely shipped with the same 3D modules.
So, it will be a little while before we can get our hands on the 3D module and the Artisan.
