How to Make a Cute Animal with Air Dry Clay?

Before we get to the different animal clay craft ideas I will show you how to make any of these clay animals by breaking their bodies down in basic shapes.
As an example, I will show you how I made this cute little penguin.

Almost every single one of the animals on this list is made by using very simple shapes and then refining them
The head of the penguin is a simple ball.

And the body is a simple bigger ball that is slightly elongated and tapered down on one side.

The wings of the penguin are just two clay worms that are slightly thicker on one end.

Roll out a piece of white clay and use it to make two patterns for the face and one big flat oval shape for the stomach.

Attach the pattern to the face and add two small black balls to the pattern as eyes.

Add The large white shape to the stomach of the penguin.

Finally, add some feet and a beak that are made out of two yellow clay balls and a cone shape.

And then, put it all together.

1. Make a Cute Dog
A cute dog can be done quite easily if you break the basic shapes of the dog down as much as possible. A simple ball for the head and an elongated ball with a flat bottom for the body.
Then you can add details like a tail, which is just a thin roll of clay, and some arms and legs, which are slightly thicker rolls of clay.

Some final detail like the pupils can be added with black acrylic paint. A white highlight on the pupils can help give some live to the dog.
2. Make a Cute Owl
An owl is actually incredibly easy to make. The head is just a ball shape and so is the body. You can carve out a ellipse on the front of the body to replace with some white feathers later.
The feathers a thin clay strips that have a wavey patter cut out of them.
The eyes are two thin clay discs and the beak is a triangle form.

The wings are thin clay strips that have the pattern for the wings cut out of them.
Its a very simple craft once you break the basic shapes of the owl down.
3. Make a Cute Little Bee
The bee is probably the easiest craft on this list. The body and the head are simple balls and the black and yellow stripes are clay strips that are wrapped around the body.
The wings can be made from clay too but in this instance they are simply made from paper and glued to the back.

4. Make a Cute Fox
The fox is a bit more advanced but still doable if you take your time.
The head and the body are elongated ball shapes. The head is then slightly squished on either ends to form the fur on the side of the face.

The rest is pretty much the same. A elongated ball shape with a thin tip as the tail and some clay worms as the legs.
5. Make a Cute Dolphin
The dolphin is another very easy craft to do. Pretty much everything is a ball shape that has been blended together.

6. Make a Little Turtle
The turtle is slightly more advanced but only because it requires some patience to make.
The head is a ball shape and the body is a round square shape that has a thick round sheet of clay on its back wich will become the turtles shell.

The feed are thick worms and the detail on the shell is made by cutting the individual pieces of the shell out of a clay piece. They are then placed on the shell. A big clay worm is then placed around the entire shell and some segments are caved in with a tool or your finger nails.
7. Make a Cute Little Axolotl
The axolotl is also made from basic shapes and its antenai are made from a small metal wire that is covered in a clay worm.
Then you segment the worm and finally you squash the very sides of the worm and cut off some parts to make the fine detail. Then simply stick the whole thing with the metal wire in the head of the axolotl.

8. Make a Sweet Little Panda
The panda is another very simple craft.

Everything about this cute panda is a squashed ball except for the black part around the eyes and the ears wich are clay circles.
9. Make a Cute Cow
This cow is a little more advanced because it requires you to attach its ears and tail with a metal wire to ensure that they stick properly.

The rest, however, is just the same as before. Everything is ball-shaped or clay-worm-shaped.
10. Make a Cute Koala
This cute koala can also be quite easily done. His head is a big ball and his body is an elongated ball.

His feet are just thick clay worms with some detail carved into the ends to make them look like feet.
11. Make a Little Lion
The lion seems daunting but it is actually a lot of fun to make.
The mane of the lion is a lot of thin clay strips that are cut to size and then laid in a circle. Then you simply take a big clay ball, which is going to be the lions face, and press it in the middle of the clay strips. The strips will adhere to the clay ball and create the basis of the lion.

Now you can add the ears and make a body for the lion, which is just another elongated ball.
12. Make a Sweet Little Bear
This is another very easy animal to make out of clay.

The head is simply a big ball of clay and the body is another big elongated ball of clay. The arms and the feet are simply clay worms that are attached to the body.
13. Make a Cute Little Frog
This frog is a little more challenging mainly because of the thin arms and legs that may need some support, depending on the type of clay you are using. I recommend air dry foam clay for this craft.

The head is a simple ball and the body is an elongated ball shape. The eyes are simple balls too with some thin white and black foam discs layered on top to make the pupils.
The legs are long clay worms that may need to be attached to the body with some metal wire to ensure that they adhere properly.
14. Make a Cute Little Zebra
THis zebra is very easy to make. Everything is just a rounded square shape.

The ears are made by creating a rounded square. Layer a pink slightly smaller square inside and then carefully shape them into an ear shape.
Finally, pinch one side of the clay ear and attach that side to the zebra’s head.
15. Make a Sweet Little Penguin
This penguin is incredibly easy to make. The head is a simple ball shape, as is the body.
The wings are squashed elongated balls and the beak is a simple ball with a separation carved into it.
