Looking for a fun and easy fall craft? Making a paper pumpkin is a simple, creative project that’s perfect for decorating your home or classroom for the season. Whether you’re a seasoned crafter or just looking for a quick DIY, this project is great for all skill levels. Grab some colorful paper, a few basic supplies, and let’s dive into creating your own festive paper pumpkin!

Supplies Needed

You don´t need much to make a paper pumpkin and you should have most of the supplies already at home.

You will need:

  • Colored Paper
  • Scissors
  • Paper glue or superglue
  • An electric candle

Step 1: Cut the Paper for the Pumpkin

First, we will fold the paper in half along the longer side. I choose an orange paper but you can choose any color you want for your pumpkin.

Then fold it in the middle again.

And fold it in the middle again.

Then unfold the paper again.

Then cut along the fold lines. You should end up with 8 equal stripes of paper.

Step 2: Make the Body of the Pumpkin

Take two of the paper strips and glue them together at a 90° angle.

Next, add two more paper strips. You will end up with a cross like this:

Now, glue the rest of the paper strips at a 45° angle.

Finally, bend the stripes upwards and glue them in the same way as the bottom side.

You will end up with the body of the pumpkin.

Step 3: Adding Details

Finally, we will add some details to the pumpkin to make it look like a pumpkin or a Jack O’Lantern.

First, we will add the stem of the pumpkin. Take a piece of paper and cut a thin strip of paper from it that is about as wide as the top of the pumpkin.

Then cut the paper to make it taper off on the top and the bottom side of the paper.

Then, glue the tapered ends together.

Then glue the stem to the top of the pumpin.

You can also cut some triangles and a mouth out of dark brown paper and glue them to the pumpkin to make it a Jack O’Lantern.

A final optional thing, that you can do, is insert a fake electrical candle inside the pumpkin. This will make it an actual paper Jack O’Lantern.
