There are a lot of ways to fold an envelope. In this tutorial, I will show you three of my favorite ways to make unique envelopes. All you need is some paper and some glue.

Supplies

You will need:

  • Some paper in letter format or 30.5 cm x 30.5 cm (Amazo Link). Make sure that the paper is strong (120 g / 80 lbs or heavier)
  • Siccors
  • A scoring board (Amazon Link) or a ruler.
  • Some superglue

How to Make a Unique Square Envelope

This type of envelope is pretty easy and fast to make. It looks quite unique, making it very obvious that it was made by hand.

Step 1: Mark the Paper

First, we need to mark the paper. I am using a scoring board for that but you can just as easily use a ruler and a pencil to mark the paper.

Make two marks at 8 cm and 22.5 cm. Then rotate the paper by 90 ° and make two more marks at 4 cm and 26.5 cm.

Step 2: Cut the Paper

Next, we need to cut away the squares at each of the four corners. It should look like this, once you are done.

Step 3: Fold the Envelope

Finally, we only need to fold the envelope along the marked lines.

Add some glue to the lower part of the two flaps on the sides of the envelope and press the large bottom flap down.

And just like that, the square envelope is done!

You can do some variations of this design to make the envelope look more unique. For example, you can wrap a thin, long piece of paper around the envelope and seal it with a wax seal. I used that method to upgrade these simple envelopes, I got from Amazon.

How to Make a Magical Envelope

This envelope is a little more complicated to make. A printer is not needed but will make the entire process much easier.

Step 1: Print the Design

You can download the design here.

Simply print the design on a paper of your choosing, I am using black paper here and cut the design out.

Step 2: Fold the Envelope

Fold the envelope along the sides shown in the picture.

Then apply some superglue to the flaps on the sides and press the bottom fold down. The glue will adhere after a few seconds.

Step 3: Add Some Details

Finally, you can add some details to the envelope to make it look more magical. I have added a template to the download folder above that you can use to come up with your own designs.

I printed my designs on some white craft paper.

Glue the design on the top flap of the envelope with some superglue.

And with that, you are done!

You can also buy envelopes from Amazon and then “upgrade” them with a slim piece of paper or a wax seal to make them look more unique.

I used these envelopes, for example, and upgraded them as mentioned above. This is the result:
