In this tutorial, I will show you how to make a simple explosion box with candy you can easily make for your loved ones. This box is ideal as a gift for Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries, and more. I have another guide that shows how to build an exploding gift box with pictures if you are curious.
Supplies

You don´t need much and you should have most of these supplies at home already.
Here is what you need:
- A Ruler or a scoring board (I´m using a scoring board) — Amazon link
- Scissors
- Superglue
- Some 30.5 cm x 30.5 cm paper — Amazon link
You have a lot of choices when it comes to paper. Choose any color you like but ensure that the paper is 30,5 cm by 30.5 cm in size.
Step 1: Make the Box

First, we have to measure and mark where to cut the paper. I´m using a scoring board for that but you can also just use a graphite pen and a ruler.

Mark the paper at 10 cm and 20.5 cm. Then rotate the paper by 90° and mark the paper at 10 cm and 20.5 cm again. The paper should now look like this:

Then cut away the squares in the corners.

Until you are left with a paper cross that looks like this.

Make two more paper crosses like the one above but make the middle section a little smaller each time. For example, mark and cut the paper at 11 cm and 19.5 cm for the second cross and 12 cm and 18.5 for the third one.

Fold the paper crosses inwards and then glue them to each other at the middle section. You should end up with something like this.

Finally, we will make the paper rose in the middle of the box. Use one of the discarded squares from the first paper and fold the paper horizontally in half. Unfold and then fold it horizontally along the other side and unfold it again.
Measure 3 cm from the middle fold to each side and mark the paper with a small dot. Do this for each side.
Then fold the paper diagonally from one dot to the other on the opposite corner. Your paper should now look like this.

Now, fold the paper inwards along the long diagonal folds to get the final flower box shape.

And then glue the flower in the middle of the box.

Step 2: Make the Lid
The lid is fairly easy to make. Start by marking the paper at 7 cm, 10 cm, 20.5 cm, and 23.5 cm. Then rotate the paper and mark it again at the same length.

Cut out the middle square.

Next, cut the squares at the edges diagonally and cut away one of the triangles. The other triangle will be used to glue the lid.

Finally, glue the lid together by using the triangle flaps we just cut.

Step 3: Decorate the Box
Finally, we will decorate the box with sweets.
It´s best to use candy that is packaged or wrapped like small lollipops, chewing gum, gummi bears, or similar. The paper flower in the middle of the box can be filled with gummi bears, M&M´s, bonbons, or similar.

I always start by filling the center and working my way to the outside of the box.

Don´t fill the box up with too much candy or it might not close.
I used double-sided tape to adhere the gummi bears and the chewing gum to the inside of the box. The double-sided tape will be strong enough to keep the candy in place while still making it possible to remove the candy easily.

And with that, you are done!
