Making a paper storage box is a small fun little DIY project that you can do very easily at home. All you need is some paper and some scissors. In this guide, I will show you exactly how to make a simple paper storage box with and without a lid. Let´get started.
Supplies Needed
You don´t need much for this project. All you need is:
- Some colorful paper
- Some scissors
- Some superglue
You can use any type of paper you want but the paper box will turn out better when you use stronger paper.
How to Make a Regular Paper Storage Box

First, I will show you how to make a regular storage box in easy-to-follow steps. Then I will show you how you can make a similar box with a lid to close it.
1. Cut the Paper to a Square
We need a square piece of paper. If you already have one then you can skip this step.
Fold one corner of the paper over to the other side of the paper.

Unfold the paper and repeat with the other corner.

Finally, cut along the edge to make the paper square.

2. Fold the Corners Inwards
Next, fold the corners inwards to make a smaller square. Fold one corner over and align it with the middle of the square where the folded lines meet.

Do this with all four corners.

3. Make Some Marks
Now we will make some marks by folding the sides of the paper inwards to the center.

Then fold it back and repeat for all four sides. The paper will look like this when you are done.

4. Make it a Box
The following steps can look a bit daunting but you can do it. Just follow the instructions carefully and look at the images for each step.
First, we will unfold two opposing sides of the square.

Then, we will fold the two long sides inwards so that they meet in the middle.

Next, fold the two shorter sides diagonally downwards along the short diagonal folded line. The paper should look like this:

Fold it back and then upwards in the same way.

Repeat this step for the other site.
Unfold the paper until only the two corners on the top and the bottom are still folded in.

Now, fold in the corner on one side and fold the sides in at the same time.

Finally, fold the triangle side over to create the wall of the storage box on one side. The tip of the triangle should meet the other corners in the middle.

Repeat for the other side and you are done.

Now you can experiment by using different types and sizes of paper to make differently sized boxes.

If making this paper storage box was fun then you might also enjoy making an explosion box or a candy explosion box.

How to Make a Paper Storage Box With Lid
Let´s now make a box with a lid. The first few steps are very similar, so I will only briefly review them.

1. Cut the Paper to a Square and Fold the Corners Inwards
Just like before, fold the corner of the paper to one side and cut it into a square.

Then unfold the paper and fold the other corner diagonally and unfold the paper again. You will end up with a paper square with two diagonal lines going from one corner to another.

Then fold the corners inwards so that they meet in the middle.

2. Make Some Marks
This is the part that differs from the other box. We will fold the square in thirds along one side.

Then unfold the square again and fold it in thirds along the other side. Then unfold it again. The paper should now look like this.

Now, unfold two opposing sides of the square.

3. Fold it Into a Box
Next, fold the longer sides inwards. The sides should meet in the middle. Then fold one side over to make it into a Box.

Fold the side over to create one of the box walls.

Finally, repeat the process with the other side. But instead of folding the paper inwards to create the wall of the box, we will glue the two overlapping paper flaps together to create a wall and the lid.

Then fold the lid over and puch the triangle tip inside the box to close the storage box.

And with that you are done!
